Leigh Ornithological Society – Young Birders’ Club (LOSYBC)
LOSYBC are the award winning Education Team at Leigh Ornithological Society. The main aim of our activities is to help give young people a long term interest in wildlife and the environment. The Education Team (all volunteers) includes three former teachers and a chartered engineer.
We do FREE interactive workshops in primary schools, ideally with Year 5 pupils. These typically last for most of an afternoon session and focus on birds and other wildlife. The workshops include quizzes and other games, as well as constructing a bird identification dial and the content has strong links with the Science National Curriculum.
As well as schools we can also visit other groups such as Cubs, Beavers, Scouts, Brownies, Boys’ Brigade and adult organisations such as the Rotary Club. Again, our services are free.
We can also do guided nature walks, e.g. to Pennington Flash or Lilford Park (and we have binoculars and scopes which can be borrowed for the walk).
